Eligibility and Application

Extended Deadline to Register for Plainsmen’s Prep: Sunday, July 26, 2020

Student Eligibility:

Who is eligible?

To be eligible for participation in Plainsmen’s Prep, you must be an incoming first-year student who is not qualified to enter your major’s core math requirement for the fall semester. Follow the steps below to determine your eligibility:

Step #1: Review the AU Bulletin to determine your major’s core math requirement.

Step #2: Review the math course placement page to understand your highest Math ACT/SAT score and math placement.

Step #3: Compare your major’s core math requirement with your highest Math ACT/SAT score and math placement. If your math placement for the fall semester is lower than the core math requirement for your major, you are qualified to apply for participation in the Plainsmen’s Prep program. Please note that AP/IB credits, enrollment in summer courses, and transfer courses may affect this placement and your eligibility for the program.

Example: A student intends on pursuing a Biochemistry major and achieves a 24 on the Math section of the ACT. They do not have any AP/IB credits or summer/transfer courses affecting their math placement.

  • Step #1: On the AU Bulletin, the core math requirement listed in the fall semester for a Biochemistry major is MATH 1610 (Calculus I).
  • Step #2: The math course placement page shows that a 24 on the Math section of the ACT places this student into MATH 1130 or MATH 1150.
  • Step #3: Since the student has placed into a lower level than the core math requirement for their major, they are qualified to apply for the program.

Still unsure? We encourage you to speak with your Academic Advisor during your Camp War Eagle orientation session regarding your major’s requirements and your math placement before applying for participation in the Plainsmen’s Prep program.

Who is not eligible?

Plainsmen’s Prep is for incoming first-year students who are seeking to increase their math course placement for their first semester at Auburn University. Plainsmen’s Prep does not serve as a review for students who have already placed into their major’s required math course. Students who have placed into their major’s required math course are not eligible for the program.

Due to conflicting schedules, students are not eligible to participate in both Plainsmen’s Prep and sorority recruitment, band camp, or other University courses during August 2-11.
