Supplemental Instruction

SI Sessions are led by undergraduate students who previously succeeded in the course and are trained to help others learn effective study strategies.

SI Leaders are trained peer leaders who guide discussions and collaborative activities in small groups. These sessions encourage students to learn from one another, ask questions, and actively engage with course material. SI Leaders do not re-teach lectures or introduce new content. Instead, they help create an environment where students actively work together to better understand the material and take an active role in their learning.

SI sessions focus on both what to learn and how to learn it. Students practice effective study and learning strategies while reviewing course material. As they build these skills, students can use them in other courses and apply them to new learning challenges. SI sessions are not part of the course, and SI Leaders are not instructors. Instead, sessions provide a relaxed environment to ask questions, practice with content, build confidence, and connect with other students.

SI sessions meet twice a week at a set day and time. Early in the semester, students share their availability through a short survey. Session times are based on that feedback whenever possible. SI sessions are free, optional, and open to all students in the course. Students can check Canvas and their Auburn email for information about session times, meeting links, and what to expect from their SI Leader.
