Study Smart: FAQs

Study Smart is a class for students who want to return to Auburn after being suspended, with a new attitude, new skills, and the tools to reach their academic goals.

• If a student already appealed their suspension and was told to take Study Smart by the Academic Appeals Committee, passing the course fulfills that requirement.

• If a student hasn't appealed yet, passing Study Smart gives them a chance to appeal their suspension.

Overall, finishing this course is one factor considered in the Academic Appeal process, which is handled by the Office of the Registrar.

Students who complete Study Smart are ready to return to Auburn with the skills, tools, and mindset they need to succeed at a research university.

Study Smart is not Academic Advising, Career Counseling, student counseling, tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, nor Accountability Groups. You can find links to these other services throughout our website, and we encourage you to take advantage of these services. With dedication, hard work, and effort, students can find success through Study Smart.

The course mixes group discussions with fun learning activities. To take part in online classes through Zoom and complete assignments in Canvas, students need a computer, internet connection, webcam, and microphone.

The class meets once a week for 90 minutes, online, over 10 weeks (7 weeks, and twice some weeks in summer). It's up to each student to complete assignments and study for tests on their own time. The course is challenging, with regular chapter readings, projects, and writing assignments. Students must complete all assignments to pass the course, no matter what grade they're earning.

Students must pay a $150 fee to register. This fee cannot be refunded. Once your application is approved, the instructor will email you the payment portal link. You will also need a few other things for the class, like a textbook and something to keep your notes organized, such as a binder, notebook, or folder. The instructor will send instructions for buying the textbook after you register.
